Question from a WordTruth.Com friend:

>>>   How does a static God meaningfully relate to an ever-changing world? What, exactly, is responsible for the continual process of change? If God is the sole author of creation, and does not change, then why does any sort of change take place at all in the world?

WordTruth.Com Response:

This question brings together numerous related aspects of God's nature -- first His immutability and His transcendence.  God is complete; His nature and His character do not change (immutable).  His character never changes in from perfect holiness, righteousness, truth, wisdom, love, justice, mercy, etc.   God is transcendent over the creation.  Understand that God is spirit in nature, non-physical (John 4:24). Yet He created a physical universe with time, space, and matter.  God is also infinite in nature, and therefore everywhere present. But never confuse the universe (creation) with its Creator. God is not bound by time and space.

The fact that God is immutable and transcendent does not mean that He is not alive. Nor does it mean that He fails to act or interact with His creation.  In fact, He created the universe and human beings in particular in order that He might have fellowship with us.  Human beings are unique in the universe in that we are created "in the image of God" (Genesis 1:27, NKJV).  He endowed physical beings with an eternal spiritual nature so that we could relate to Him.  He did not need fellowship but simply desired it.  And what a privilege it is that the infinite Creator desires to have a relationship with finite, created beings!

The process of change is a process that God Himself established in the creation.  God is all-powerful and fully capable of creating a physical world that changes over time.  He also created living creatures capable of making choices. That also impacts the change process in this universe. There is no conflict in God's immutability and His creation that is definitely not immutable.

May God bless you with His wisdom and the courage to follow Jesus!
